A global icon in Sydney, Arc by Crown Group, won three prestigious industry awards at the 2019 MBA awards at The Star Event Centre on Saturday night: Best Mixed Use Development, Best Use of Steel and Best Use of Bricks.
The 25-storey tower, Arc by Crown Group, was designed by internationally acclaimed Koichi Takada Architects. The building has become a true landmark development since it opened in 2018. Located at 161 Clarence Street in Sydney’s CBD, it offers 148 residential apartments, 73 serviced apartments, luxury five-star resort style facilities and a new retail and dining precinct.
Featuring a striking heritage-inspired street level rustic red brick façade and 59 gleaming white cathedral-like curved arches that envelop the tower’s rooftop lounge and garden, the unique building shapes Sydney’s skyline with a gentle and organic form. Crown Group’s signature resort-style facilities include an insta-worthy indoor heated swimming pool, spa, gym and rooftop garden with beautiful water feature and panoramic city views.
Designed to enrich and regenerate public amenity in the city, Crown Group has worked collaboratively to restore Skittle Lane, which was originally built in the 1800’s as a laneway to service the surrounding warehouses and also used as a bowling alley for sailors and soldiers. Using trachyte blocks, Crown Group repurposed Skittle Lane into a pedestrian and boutique retail thoroughfare with an eight-storey atrium linking King Street with Kent and Clarence Streets. Crown Group has added an archaeological display using the findings from its site works.
At ground-level, Arc by Crown Group’s modern retail precinct is home to Michi Izakaya & Ramen, Ministry of Coffee, Delicatessen by Pony Dining and Grew & Co Fine Jewellery with Meu Jardim by UES to open soon.
The Master Builders Association of NSW (MBA) has one of the state’s oldest and most comprehensive award programs, promoting excellence in construction, workmanship, innovation and dedication to the industry.
Crown Group Chief Operating Officer Pierre Abrahamse said, “The architects and builders showed incredible vision and skill in creating a building that became a real talking point for Sydney when it was under construction and when it was completed last year.
“The heritage-look brick façade and the glass-and-steel tower with its gleaming white arches required complex building techniques and a sophisticated skill set from Hutchinson Builders.
“The result was a building that stands out from any other new creations in Sydney. We are proud that Arc by Crown Group was able to set new parameters in building and create an eye-catching new attraction that its residents, guests and our teams are really thrilled to be a part of.”
