SERENATA 2017 is an annual event held by PPIA Western Australia (formerly named GAYANA) which was held on Saturday, 9th of September 2017 at The Rocks Auditorium, Cannington, WA.

The concept of this event this year is modern retro, as we want to emphasize that although we are in an evolving era, as Indonesian citizens, we should maintain the spirit of ‘Bhinneka Tunggal Ika’ or Unity in Diversity. We chose the theme Beauty in Diversity because we want to remind to all of the Indonesians out there that Indonesia’s diverse culture is something we should be proud and we should celebrate it, not in contrary, by using diversity as an instrument to separate our nation.

This year we invited RAN, Kunto Aji, and stand-up comedian Vikri Rasta to enlivened our event. RAN is a pop, R&B band, and Kunto Aji is an Indonesian Idol pop soloist. Besides to the musical performances, we also had a mini art exhibition and food stall markets on our event which received a positive feedback from the visitors. The art exhibition varies from paintings, photography, fashion, sculptures, and many Indonesian themed artworks, our food stalls also vary from different types of Indonesian cuisines. The placement of art exhibition and food stalls aims to promote not only the artists from Indonesia, but also the ‘diverse culture’ that we have to not only the Indonesians in Perth, but also to the locals.

Our event was attended by more than 500 people ranging from kids to adults, and from Indonesians to local Australians in Perth. Everyone danced and singed along during the performances of RAN and Kunto Aji, and they also laughed during the performance of Vikri Rasta when he showcased his stand-up comedy on the stage.

Through SERENATA 2017, we hope everyone who came was enlightened by all of the performances, food stalls, and art exhibition. We hope to see you all again next year in SERENATA 2018!
